DIANE FORTNER, owner of Right At Home (providing in home care, helping seniors maintain their independence), considers her work with Right at Home “The hardest work I’ve ever done… and the most rewarding.”
A Navy brat born in Guam, Diane grew up near Disneyland, where for her first job she sold orange juice on Main Street. Diane’s first career position was in 1985 as a commercial insurance broker. Among her clients were several homecare companies, piquing Diane’s interest in the field. Sadly, in 1997, doctors diagnosed her grandmother with liver cancer. Diane watched her parents grapple with the need to take action and their distress at not knowing what to do. She thought, “My grandmother needs to be home,” but nobody suggested home care. Realizing that she would one day face the same situation for her parents and herself, Diane paid closer attention to her homecare clients.
In 2005, she received a request for insurance from Right At Home-Fresno. In the course of working with this company, Diane watched their success and learned of the stories that brought them great reward. After questioning the Fresno office about their business, Diane knew that she had found her “next career”.
Right at Home Pasadena is now ranking as one of the top 25 franchises in the country. Diane is a member of CAHSAH, NPDA, MAPS, FRTSGV, five local Chambers of Commerce and the Crescenta Valley Historical Society. She is Past-President of CV BNI.
What brings joy to Diane these days? “Helping clients recover from hospital stays and being the reason they are active again. Getting thank you cards from clients, telling us that were the difference in their recovery and that we brought joy to their lives”. Assisting with grocery shopping, helping with household chores, escorting them to the doctors, simple things bring the biggest smiles, and makes our hard work feel so worthwhile.
